Terms of use
Gradient AI · getgradient.it · updated on 7 October 2026
Gradient AI gives you, for free, five levels to say how much AI is part of a piece of work, and how, with their texts, badges and a JavaScript library. These terms are for everyone who uses the website, the levels, the badges and the code. They come in addition to the licences in Licence and credit and do not limit them: if there is a doubt, the licences come first.
1. How we ask you to give credit
The CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence asks you to name the authors and the source "in any reasonable manner" for the medium you use. A badge alone is often not enough: it is small, it is easy to cut out, and the licence line on its edge disappears when the badge is made smaller or when it is removed. So we ask you to add a credit line in text each time you use the levels or the badges, that readers can find and copy. For us, this is the reasonable way to follow the licence.
- The short credit is enough: "Gradient AI, levels of AI use (getgradient.it)".
- It does not need to be next to the badge. It can be anywhere in the work where people can read it, for example in the credits, the notes, the footer or the first page. One credit line is enough for all the badges in the same work.
- If the medium has no place for text (for example an image published alone), put it in the caption, the description or the metadata, or add a link to getgradient.it.
- If you use the badges or icons without the licence line, or if you change the texts or the badges, use the full credit from How to give credit, and say what you changed.
This request does not add rules to the licence. It explains how we think the licence is followed.
2. The person who states a level is responsible for it
- A level is a statement by the person who chooses it or puts it on a piece of work. That person is responsible for choosing it, telling others about it and keeping to it.
- A badge is not a certificate. The project does not check any work and does not promise that the stated level matches the real use of AI.
- The levels do not say how good, risky or valuable the work is.
3. Name and approval
- Do not present your work, product or service as approved, certified or supported by the person who leads Gradient AI, or by the authors of the AI Assessment Scale (AIAS).
- Do not use the name "Gradient AI" (or "Gradiente IA", "Gradient IA", "AI 梯度") as the name of your own product or derived project. Changed versions of the levels or badges must be shown as yours, with the source.
4. Website services
The website, the files to download and the codes to copy (also the cdn.getgradient.it addresses) are given as they are, with no promise that they will always be online. Addresses linked to a version are meant to stay the same, but the service can change or stop. If you need something that lasts, use a downloaded file.
5. No guarantee
We give these materials for teaching and information, with no guarantee of any kind. As far as the law allows, the person who leads the project is not responsible for damage that comes from using the levels, badges, code or website. Choosing a level, planning a task or a job, and assessing work are the responsibility of the people who do them and of their organisation.
6. Changes and contact
We may change these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Questions: info (at) getgradient.it. How we use personal data is in the privacy notice.
